UPDATE: The deputy has been identified as Deputy Jesus Vargas. He was married with three children.

ORIGNAL STORY: A Brazoria County deputy was fatally shot today during an incident on Stella Link Road in southwest Houston, as reported by ABC13.  The deputy, a 17-year veteran of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The deputy has yet to be identified.

The shooting occurred just before noon on Stella Link Road, north of the South Loop. While details surrounding the circumstances remain unclear, Houston police confirmed that the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Robert Lee Davis, who also uses the alias Sean Christopher Davis. A manhunt is currently underway, and law enforcement is urging the public to avoid the area and report any information about Davis’ whereabouts.
