The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is preparing for the upcoming presidential inauguration with its entire force fully activated and support from an additional 4,000 officers from across the country.

Chief Pamela A. Smith detailed the extensive security plans, emphasizing the critical role law enforcement will play in ensuring the event’s safety and success.

“Our entire police department will be activated for the presidential inauguration,” Chief Smith announced.

“In addition, we will be reinforced with nearly 4,000 officers from across the United States who were generous enough to raise their hands and commit their time to assist the Metropolitan Police Department.”

The additional officers will focus on key areas such as managing traffic, securing routes for dignitaries, and maintaining public safety throughout the city during the high-profile event.

Chief Smith expressed her appreciation for the officers traveling to Washington, D.C., acknowledging their sacrifice and dedication.

“I’d like to pause and thank those officers who are coming to our city, taking time away from their families to ensure the safety and security of this event,” she said.
